OK, this is a departure for me — it’s a product endorsement. It’s not a paid endorsement, and I have no aspirations to be an internet “influencer,” but I do like to tell people about a cool product when I find one. (I may have been responsible for more Palm Pilot sales in the late ’90s than some paid salespeople.)
These glasses are made by a company called Bodum. I bought them on Amazon. What’s unusual about them is that they’re double-walled and thus insulated. Of course that means that hot drinks stay hotter and cold drinks stay colder, but for me the best thing about them is that they don’t sweat when you put iced drinks in them during the summer — no drops of condensation falling on my pants when I pick up the glass; no ring of condensation on the table if I fail to use a coaster. (OK, I can hear the objections from those who know me. You’re right, I always use a coaster. But with these glasses I don’t really need to.)
Full disclosure: my wife isn’t crazy about them. She thinks they feel funny to hold. I tell her that’s because they’re better, but she seems unpersuaded.
The taller ones are 13.5 ounces, which mean they hold all the contents of a bottle of beer plus a little bit of a head. One of my beer-loving friends won’t use any other glass when she visits.
If the photo makes you think they might be more fragile than a typical tumbler, I can only say that they seem plenty strong enough for daily use. The only time I’ve broken one in the years I’ve been using them is when a visiting dog knocked one off the table onto the floor.
