Okay, I think we can risk saying it. Barring some horrible screw-up on Joe Biden’s part over the next two weeks, he’s going to win the November 3rd election. We Democrats are terribly gun-shy about expressing any confidence in a Biden victory because we were confident four years ago that Hillary Clinton was going to win, and look how that turned out. We’re now much more skeptical of the polls and don’t want to jinx the election by relaxing too soon. The prevailing attitude among Democrats is that it’s got to be a full-court press to Election Day.
And even aside from the lessons of 2016, that makes sense, because the presidency is not all that’s at stake. Even assuming a Biden victory, the Senate is in play as well, and that’s still something that could go either way.
But I’m now feeling good about a Biden victory, and so are my Democratic friends. They just don’t want to say so because they’re chastened by 2016.
But there are two things that none of us are confident about: (1) that the outcome of the election will be decided on election night, or even the next day, and (2) that Donald Trump will go quietly.
Fasten your seat belts.
