I wrote previously about writing postcards to voters on behalf of Reclaim Our Vote, which supports volunteers who want to send appeals to registered Democrats, especially voters of color, urging them to take advantage of early voting in the upcoming election. I obtained postcards, addresses and instructions from a local activist group that works with Reclaim Our Vote.
I’ve since found another organization that does something similar. It’s called, intuitively enough, Postcards to Voters. Unlike Reclaim Our Vote, whose appeals are not overtly partisan, Postcards to Voters enables sending postcards on behalf of specific Democratic candidates. I’ve mailed postcards urging votes for Amy McGrath, who is running for U.S. Senate against Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, and I’m about to send a batch on behalf of Cal Cunningham, who is running against Thom Tillis for a U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina.
Yesterday I learned of a third group called Vote Forward that supports those who want to write letters to voters. Like Reclaim Our Vote, the appeals are non-partisan, but there’s more of an opportunity to personalize your message, saying in your own words why you believe it’s important to vote. Vote Forward asks that you write your letters and then hold onto them until a specified date in late October so that they’re received just before the election.
All three groups require that you pay for postage. Reclaim Our Vote provides custom postcards. Postcards to Voters has a website where you can buy election-oriented postcards, though you can use your own. And you provide the paper and envelopes for letters you send on behalf of Vote Forward.
My plan is to write at least one letter and five postcards a day until shortly before Election Day. I gotta to do what I can do.
