It’s been about 10 weeks since the Covid-19 pandemic closed down the option of doing much of anything that involves physically mingling with other people outside the home. As a retired man with no kids and no hobbies, that has distilled my daily life down to just a handful of activities. I spend some time at my desk responding to emails and paying any bills that have come in. Otherwise I eat, read, watch TV, visit my mother, talk with my wife, and walk my dog.
Like most people, I’ve participated in a few Zoom meetings, and of course there are housekeeping chores, but those recur only every week or two. The daily routine has gotten pretty lean. And it has obliged me to acknowledge that I’m living a fairly passive life — consuming food, books and media — and not producing anything or developing myself in any meaningful way.
After a certain amount of soul-searching, I’ve decided to spend some time each day writing. I was surprised to discover recently that the web domain myblog.paulwknight.com was available, so I claimed it as a place where I can keep a blog. And here it is.
