Son of a gun! I sat down to write about a pet peeve of mine: Typing the name of a book and its author into the search field on Amazon.com and getting a list of results in which the book I’m looking for is not at the top. What I’ve often gotten instead are a couple of “recommended” books listed first, only then followed by the book I’m looking for. So annoying.
But before I started writing this post I decided to do such a search so that I could cite an actual example, and it didn’t happen. So I entered the name and author of another book, and another — ten in all — and every single time the book I was looking for appeared at the top of the search results.
I swear, Amazon used to display paid ads ahead of the book I was searching for, even if I entered the exact name of the book and its author, but they’ve stopped! I guess I wasn’t the only one who found the practice exasperating. Evidently, Amazon got the message. I’m a little agog, but appreciative. (Though please let me know if this still happens to you.)
