I wrote previously that I miss visiting people, but I’ve nonetheless accommodated to the constraints imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. I’ve gotten pretty darn comfortable with the monastic life — perhaps a little too comfortable. I find I’ve been falling out of touch with many of the people I used to visit or talk with from time to time, settling more and more into a routine of reading, writing and watching TV.
And while writing this blog could be seen as a way of communicating with the small number of people who read it (Hi, Mom!), I have come to realize that I’m falling out of touch with most of the people with whom I used to connect.
So I’ve decided to email at least one person every day — someone I previously would have traveled to visit, or scheduled lunch with, or just crossed paths with at a cocktail party.
Just making that decision makes me feel a little better, a little less alone.
Well, hello Paul! I feel we’re now connected again! (And hi, Paul’s mom!)
